Learning paths at MSax

MSax builds its programme around a range of levels and goals.

The beginner group class is for newcomers, guiding students step by step through posture, embouchure, breathing, finger technique, reading music and basic practice pieces.

The one-to-one class suits students who want closer guidance on breath support, tone, technique, rhythm and how to shape a piece.

The advanced class is for those who already have a foundation, focusing on control of tone colour, expressive technique, musical style and performing ability.

MSax also runs workshops, trial lessons and hands-on sessions for anyone who wants to get a feel for the saxophone before committing to a longer path.

Online saxophone class – learning from a distance, still with a teacher beside you

Alongside the in-person classes, MSax runs an online saxophone class every Sunday, so people living far from Hanoi can still take part.

Lê Duy Mạnh, MMus, has taught more than 300 hours of saxophone online across digital platforms, with hundreds of students taking part.

Built on that teaching experience, the online programme is designed so that students still receive guidance and corrections on the things that matter most:

  • Breathing and breath support
  • Embouchure and tone
  • Finger technique
  • Music theory and rhythm
  • How to practise
  • Shaping a piece and performance technique.

Students can also send in videos or recordings so the teacher can follow their progress and give feedback between lessons.

That makes the online class a practical choice for people living far from Hanoi, Vietnamese people living abroad, or anyone who cannot come to the center in person.

Lê Duy Mạnh, MMus, and the teaching direction

MSax was founded and is professionally directed by Lê Duy Mạnh, MMus, a saxophonist with many years of work in both teaching and performance.

He is known as the first person in Vietnam to hold a Master’s degree in Saxophone. He has performed in major national arts programmes, released music of his own, and worked to bring the saxophone — and Vietnamese music — to audiences at home and abroad.

That real performing experience feeds back into the teaching at MSax, so students learn not only to play the right notes but, step by step, to master tone, technique, interpretation and expression on stage.

More than lessons – a community

MSax does not stop at classroom hours; it also puts real effort into building a community for people who love the saxophone.

Outdoor trips, team building, informal performances and the MSax Summer Camp give students more chances to meet, play together, and keep their love of the instrument alive over the long run.

For children, it is also an environment that builds confidence, communication skills and a sense of teamwork. For adults, these community activities turn learning music into something genuinely enjoyable — and a reason to keep practising.

MSax – learning saxophone along a proper path

One of the hardest parts of teaching yourself the saxophone is that mistakes in breathing, in how you take the mouthpiece, in tone and in technique are easy to make and hard to notice on your own.

So MSax concentrates on building the right foundation from the very first lesson, then developing step by step from basic technique through to interpretation and performance.

Whether you are a complete beginner, a child, an adult, someone who already plays, or someone living far from Hanoi, MSax has a format that fits.
